On 8th October, we are hosting the RM Assessment Summit: AI in Action at the Leonardo Royal London Hotel, a follow-up to our successful event, Bridging AI & Assessment.
This in-person summit is dedicated to the ethical advancement of AI in assessment and how innovation and technology enhance the learner journey. We are expecting to be joined by over 130 delegates from over 90 companies.
The purpose of the event was summed up but Kieron Williams, Strategic Partnerships Director at RM: “The reason why it is so important to put this event on is for RM to engage with the entire customer base, to really get a community spirit around how AI is going to evolve in the assessment space, both in the short, long and medium terms.”
We won’t be live streaming the event this time, and it is fully subscribed, but if you would like to receive our post-event digest:

AI in action – now!
What makes RM’s AI in Action event unique is that there are actionable takeaways so that delegates can innovate with AI in assessment now, without introducing risk or diminishing the role of the human.
At the first event in February, Dr Gráinne Watson, RM’s Chief Operating Officer, gave a ground breaking presentation announcing the results of 2 innovative Proof of Concept projects. Gráinne and her team identified 3 clear, quantifiable benefits of AI marking.
AI marking:
- enhances teacher/course leader support and improves productivity in classroom and assessment contexts
- is as effective as human marking - the AI marker exceeded the performance of the human marker in terms of quality, reliability, speed and accuracy, expediting candidate results
- is more consistent than human marking – it can identify an appropriate grade and mark as consistently or better across a grade range than a human marker
Launching RMTM Echo Beta – a delegate exclusive
Delegates at our AI summit will get the opportunity to trial RM’s new product, RM Echo. Using natural language processing and similarity analysis, RM Echo helps authors and reviewers of written content to determine its originality and correct attribution.
Many people we speak to about RM Echo see an obvious application in the area of academic malpractice where coursework or exam responses are submitted by candidates. Establishing the originality of each submission is an important part of the evaluation and grade awarding process. By comparing items of written content, RM Echo surfaces potential plagiarism, collusion or access to unauthorised material. This new capability from RM is not limited to academic malpractice. There are many other applications for RM Echo, including:
- understanding the uniqueness of an exam question
- determining the accuracy of quoted text
- comparing translations
- comparing different versions of a document
- identifying common feedback across large collections of documents

“Let’s use AI to give ourselves more time to do the really important parts of our job…and let's avoid losing that ownership of the important parts of our job as well. It is a tool to help us. It shouldn't be a tool to replace the human beings.”
Dr. Matthew Glanville
Director of Assessment
International Baccalaureate (IB)
“We're not here to sell replacing summative marking with AI marking. We're not here to do that. We're here to create a community and a safe place that we can have these discussions.”

“I am really excited to deep dive with other assessment experts on how AI can support outcomes in the full assessment lifecycle- virtual, paper or hybrid on RM Ava. Our goal is to pioneer the next era of educational technology while maintaining the excellence RM is known for.”
